"Kong: Skull Island" Flying Creature

Official concept art for the 2017 Legendary Pictures / Warner Brothers film "Kong: Skull Island". It was a complete pleasure to help realize the vision of director Jordan Vogt-Roberts and production designer Stefan Dechant for the film. I was just one small contributor among a group of many immensely talented artists -- an opportunity I will forever be grateful for.

Flying Creature! My favorite contribution to this film, and the creature design that I probably made the biggest mark on. It looks like it changed a little bit in the final product, but some of my designs are pretty close to what made it in. My mind was blown when I saw it on screen...!

An illustration of one of the more successful designs. The green wings were meant to camouflage it against a dead tree.

One of the sketches of how it might mimic a tree. The spark of the idea did not originate from me.

"Fucked up stingray with a bayonet for a face" was a direct quote from the director for what he wanted for the creature.

The design got more bird-like after a while. This looks close to what ended up in the final design, I think.

A sketch for a bird-version. My attempt at ripping of Crash McReery's style. Obviously nowhere near as good as him.
