"Kong: Skull Island" Keyframe Illustrations

Official concept art for the 2017 Legendary Pictures / Warner Brothers film "Kong: Skull Island". It was a complete pleasure to help realize the vision of director Jordan Vogt-Roberts and production designer Stefan Dechant for the film. I was just one small contributor among a group of many immensely talented artists -- an opportunity I will forever be grateful for.

Here are some of the keyframe illustrations that I contributed to for moments in the film. I'm not traditionally a great keyframe painter, but I faked it on this film.

The giant storm. JVR loved the storm from Mad Max, so we did our version of that.

The first time we see the island. The vision for the island design was largely Stefan's.

One of the first images I did (before there was a Kong design). The "Flight of the Valkyries" sequence. This image was created to inform previs of the mood for the sequence, with JVR's giant sun.

At one point there was an interior "temple" in the giant ship in the native village. I think the base of this may have started as someone else's painting.

An ultra-quick one. Kong river attack -- I believe the face for Kong started as a Carlos Huante design that I painted over.

At the end of the film, in one version of the script, the characters were going to build a raft to leave the island.
